ARF is thrilled that it has received a donation of 10,000 pet meals (2,500 pounds) from Halo, Purely for Pets, as per the request of Academy Award winning actress Julianne Moore, courtesy of Halo and Freekibble.com.
The donation, which is valued at $5,100, is a result of this spring’s Academy Awards. Each nominated actor and actress in the top categories received a gift certificate from Halo for a 10,000 meal donation to the shelter or rescue of their choice. Ms. Moore chose ARF.
ARF has chosen to use the 2,500 pounds of kibble for the Operation Cat (Op Cat) Program, the most successful TNR (trap/neuter/release) Program on the East End of Long Island. In addition to spaying and neutering community cats from Brookhaven Township to Montauk, our Op Cat Program also provides free food to those volunteers who care for the large colonies of these community cats – ensuring their survival and health, especially in the harsh winter months. This donation should provide sustenance and health to our Op Cat colonies through the end of 2015.
This grant is part of a unique partnership between GreaterGood.org, FreeKibble.com, and HALO to help alleviate the burden of feeding homeless animals and will help ARF continue to care for the community (feral) cats in the area.
