ARF’s Long Island’s Best – Pet Adoption event on Saturday, April 30 at Petco in Commack was a BIG success! Thanks to a grant by Maddie’s Fund® for making this event possible, 60 animals were adopted between the 8 participating rescues and shelters!
The day began for the staff and volunteers at 6am with arrival at the big tent in front of the Commack PetCo to begin the set up for the participating 8 shelters and rescues which included Best Friends Animal Society, Kent Animal Shelter, Northport Cat Rescue Association, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter, Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter and the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter. Once set up was completed, it was arrival time for the cats and dogs! The rescues with cats for adoption were each given their own station inside PetCo, while all of the adoptable dogs were housed inside the 50’x80’ tent. Bedding was laid, toys distributed and water bowls filled; by the time the event was ready to open at 11am there was already a line of anxious adopters ready to save lives and enrich theirs!
We are thrilled to report that 6 ARF cats and 37 ARF dogs found there forever homes that day, with an additional 17 dogs from the other 7 shelters all finding new homes as well.
Many thanks to the Petco in Commack for hosting us and providing all sorts of free items, to Freshpet for providing their truck for the day, to all the participating shelters, and to our incredible volunteers, staff, and most importantly, to our adopters.
