Our Mission & Vision
The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons is dedicated to rescuing cats and dogs in need, providing them with exceptional quality care, vital medical intervention, and comprehensive training to support their journey toward adoption.
We strive not only to find loving homes for these animals, but also to ensure they receive the necessary support to thrive and remain in their forever homes. As a nonprofit organization, our lifesaving work is made possible entirely through the generosity of our supporters, with funding from charitable contributions, grants, and community partnerships. Every donation directly supports our rescue efforts, medical care, training programs, and adoption services, allowing us to continue saving lives and strengthening the bond between people and their pets.

Founded by Sony Schotland, Barbara Hotchkiss Posener and Dorothy Wahl to address the crisis of homeless and abandoned animals on Long Island’s East End
1980
Purchased 22 acres in East Hampton, New York
1984
Construction progess

Opened kennels and adoption center
1990
ARF Gala
1996
PUP (People United with Pets) program started to help people in crisis care for their pets
1997
Established Operation Cat (TNR) program to humanely reduce the growing number and needless suffering of homeless, feral and stray cats
2004
Opened a new medical wing, administration wing, and a renovated and expanded the kennel
2005
Undertook first out-of-state rescue transport in response to Hurricane Katrina and began providing free microchipping for all ARF animals
2007
First shipment of breeder dogs rescued from Midwest puppy mills
2012
Began using mobile adoption van
2023
Grand Re-Opening of ARF
2024
Launched Low-Cost Spay/Neuter and Vaccine Clinics for the Public
