President’s Column
Springing Forward!
As Tolstoy once said, “Spring is the time of plans and projects . . .,” and nowhere is that more evident than right here at the ARF Adoption Center.
After a record-breaking 2015 that saw 1,397 adoptions—an 11% increase over 2014 and exceeding our goal of 1,329—we greeted 2016 with big plans and some brand-new faces. As you’ll read in this issue, Scott Howe, ARF’s new Executive Director, will formally begin work on May 9. The Board of Directors is confident that Scott, with extensive experience in nonprofits, has the skill set to take ARF to the next level and ensure that we continue to be an important player in animal welfare on the regional and national stages. All of us look forward to working with Scott as he leads ARF into the future. Be sure to join us on Pet Celebration Day on Saturday, May 7, when you will be able to meet Scott and welcome him to the pack!
Two other new faces have joined us at ARF this spring, and we couldn’t be more excited. Please be sure to welcome Dr. Christine Asaro and Dr. Frank Zeoli, our new ARF staff veterinarians. With our Op Cat program spaying and neutering more cats than ever, and with more transports and rescues arriving each and every day, we found that we needed to double our doctors just to keep up! You’ll read about Dr. Christine and Dr. Frank in this newsletter. Both will be in attendance on Pet Celebration Day, to answer your pet-related health and other questions—and so you have another good reason to stop by at ARF on May 7.
As you enjoy the rest of this newsletter and read about our ambitious plans and projects, please keep in mind that these plans and projects could not be realized without you, our supporters. Whether you adopt, donate, volunteer, or attend any of our events, you are an integral part of ARF. Thank you for being part of our family and for allowing ARF to become part of yours.
Sincerely,
Lisa McCarthy
P.S. Please remember to visit the ARF Thrift & Treasure Shop for any of your seasonal shopping needs. Whether you are donating items or purchasing them, with every transaction you will give the gift of life.
