Thank you for your interest in dog training at the William P. Rayner Training Center at ARF Hamptons. Below are the requirements, medical, behavioral and approved equipment, for participation in all our classes as well as some additional helpful information. (Photo by Kirstin L. Gray.)

Vaccinations and Fecal Tests:

Proof of up-to-date vaccinations and negative fecal tests are required for all classes.

DPP (Distemper, Parvo & Parainfluenza) and Rabies vaccinations are required for any dog over 4 months old, AND a negative fecal test within the year.

Puppies under 4 months are required to be vaccinated to their age AND have a negative fecal test.

After registering for a class, you will be asked to upload a current copy of your vaccination records and fecal test lab report to your account as soon as possible. All records must be posted to your account with sufficient time to be reviewed prior to your first class.

Equipment:

You have the flexibility to use any of the following equipment in class: a flat collar, rolled collar, no-slip collar, head harness, body harness, or no-pull harness. Additionally, any non-retractable and non-chain leash between 4 feet and 6 feet in length is suitable for use.

Please refrain from using choke chains, prong or pinch collars, or electronic collars, as they are not permitted.

You will also need to bring good quality, bite-sized, tasty treats for your dog as training rewards. We suggest bringing a variety of treats, especially some that are high value – treats that your dog really loves.

Behavior:

Please note that aggressive dogs are not permitted in our classes. However, if your dog is nervous or anxious around other dogs or people, but not aggressive, you are still welcome to attend. If you have any questions about your dog’s behavior, please contact caryl@arfhamptons.org We will help you assess what training environment is best suited based on your dog’s needs.

Class Time:

Most of our group training classes are 1 hour long, for 4 consecutive weeks. However, some advanced classes and specialized workshops will run for 2, 3 or 6 consecutive weeks depending on the training topic. All class durations will be specified in the class description on the registration page.

Missed Classes:

If a class is cancelled due to weather for example, every effort will be made to offer a make up class. If you need to miss a class, you will need to notify the Program Director. If schedules permit, a make up class might be possible, however make up classes are not guaranteed.

Dress Code:

Please wear comfortable non-slip, closed toe shoes. Please refrain from wearing sandals or flip flops.

Parking:

Parking for classes is located behind the William P. Rayner Training Center. Upon entering the ARF campus, proceed past the Adoption center on your left and continue straight, past the training center building to the last lot.

Should you have any questions about classes, requirements or any other concerns please contact Caryl Glaab, Director of Training Programs at caryl@arfhamptons.org
